I haven't shared a recipe for quite some time now, I've been too lazy to cook because my body has been too fucked up too function. I have been changing my shift at work on a weekly basis, and I can't really say I have fully adjusted. I'm quite surprised I actually had the time to edit photos and post them on the blog and on Facebook. Anyhoo, If I do get a chance to wake up at least 2 hrs before my shift and not, say, 15mins before I'm required to be in the office, I still play around the kitchen.
A couple of weeks ago, I woke up a bit earlier than the usual and had a bit of time to cook my food. I was ecstatic because I don't have that luxury these days. I'm usually glued to my bed, trying to get as much sleep as I can. Going back, I didn't have a lot of ingredients to work with because my pantry was almost empty. I had tuna, tomatoes, onions, garlic and uncooked leftover pasta. If I weren't starving, I would've had tuna and bread, but it felt like my small intestines and large intestines were partaking in the Hunger Games, so I thought, why not mix everything and just have pasta?
Err, not really. The attitude of the sloth, most likely. Looking at my last post from Gigantes, it's sad and exhilarating at the same time to find out that the last update I've had on the blog was over 2 weeks ago. I haven't even had the time to respond to comments, and for that, I apologize. A lot of people sent me messages re: tweaking some of the recipes I posted and I promise I'll respond to everything today! Also, thank you for all the love and queries about the next post, I can feel the love. Sending my hugs and kisses back, booze too if I can. LOL.
Meanwhile in the real world, I'm really enjoying added face time (and no this is not the app) with the people I love. I'm an internet whore and just so you know, it's quite a struggle for me to keep away from it because I heavily rely on the internet for almost everything! Okay, I'm talking too much. That was actually unrelated to the photos I'll be sharing today, but what the hell!
If I were guilty of one thing, that'd be ignoring this blog for over two weeks. I won't lie and say I've been busy, in fact, I was just enjoying life and I had to detach myself a bit from the online world. I didn't cook a lot, too. I slept, watched movies and cuddled with the boyfriend. Every now and then I would check the blog for comments and have to urge to post a new entry but the boyfran would hug me away from the laptop, I mean, who can't say no to that? Definitely not me.
Anyway, this post is a pocontinuation of our trip to Iloilo last September. As I've mentioned in my previous post, Iloilo is indeed a food haven. And upon reaching Islas de Gigantes, it didn't disappoint.
We reached Gigantes Hideaway Inn around lunch time, perfect to feed our starving tummy monsters. Kuya Joseph was our designated tour guide, he made sure our food was prepared by the time we were settled in.
According to Kuya Joseph, Scallops is the main product of their island. No wonder there were scallops in every meal that we had. Lol. And just to be clear, I'm not complaining! Scallops are quite expensive in the metro. For lunch we had grilled scallops, humongous crabs, sweet and sour fish and sizzling scallops! Yummy in the tummy at its finest.
We wanted to have a quick siesta after lunch for we felt like we were in food coma after everything we ate, but we had an itinerary to follow and we were also excited to tour the islands Kuya Joseph kept on talking about during lunch. If you're planning to visit the group of islands in the near future, I suggest that you allot 5 whole days in the island so that you get to enjoy everything with the luxury of time.
I'll tell you more about the islands of Gigantes on my next post. For now, I'm voiceless, down with the flu and I keep on vomiting so I think I'd better call this a day. Happy Monday!
For a good 2 months now, I've been taking more pasta than rice as I believe it has less carbs. I don't really know if I'm saving any calories here but it seems like it because I lost a lot of weight. I don't know how to make my own pasta sauce though; I'm very reliant on ready-to-use sauces which is why I love Clara Ole, Del Monte and other brands that offer instant pasta sauces. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to make my own pasta sauce one day, it's just that I don't have the resources and time right now.
Among all the brands, I love Clara Ole the most because of the various choices they offer. One time while grocery shopping, we saw this 3-cheese pasta sauce and decided to try it. We'd usually go for Pesto but it wouldn't hurt to give this a try.
After a few weeks of starving myself to death in preparation for our Iloilo trip, I was finally ready to harvest the fruits of my labor and indulge for 4 fucking days in glorious food. I didn't really know what Iloilo had in store for us. Good thing a co-worker who's from Iloilo went with us. We told him that we'll leave things to him when it comes to food. Hence, lunch at Ponsyon by Breakthrough.
Kadyos, Baboy at Langka or KBL as they fondly call it hit me right on the spot. It tastes like Sinigang except it's not as seen from its color. The reddish color is because of the Kadyos, which I thought were red beans. Apparently, they're Pigeon Peas/Red Gram but has the same consistency as a red bean. Bat-wan is used to make the dish sour, contrary to Sinigang's sampaloc.
Some of the other dishes that we tried were Native Chicken Liempo, Adobong Kangkong and Grilled Managat. I love fish but I hated their Grilled Managat. While having a bite, I felt like the stench of the fish was all over the place that I almost lost my appetite. I don't have anything against Ponsyon, it was probably just the fish.
Ponsyon was an amazing experience. The staff were friendly and were more than happy to cater to everything we requested. I also loved their interiors and their bathroom-- their bathroom had fancy designs and arrangements and it was very clean!
Needless to say, I think this place merits a second visit. I'm excited for out trip to Iloilo next year, hopefully we'll have more time to explore other specialties that Ponsyon has to offer.
Hello, people of the innernetz. I was MIA for a few days because I just HAD to unwind and get away from the hustle and bustle of the metro. I needed some peace and quiet, hence our flight to Iloilo was very timely especially with what's happening at work right now. Work has been crazy because of all the changes. While I understand that change is the only constant thing in this world, it's also okay to take change one step at a time. I won't say anything more about the unprecedented 'change' because I'm excited to tell you about my short trip to Iloilo! Plus it's not professional so...
First off, Iloilo is such a nice place. My paternal Grandpop hails from the place, I wonder why I haven't thought of visiting the place sooner! If I were to label Iloilo in my memory bank, it's going to be food haven! I'll be doing a separate post on the food though. When we were there, of course we also wanted to know about the history and the culture that's why we visited Museo Iloilo.
Ola, loves! The weekend is almost over, I'd usually curse and complain about how the weekend is so short and how Monday is always around the corner--but not this time. I only have a 3-day work week because I'm going to Iloilo with the boyfran and some friends from work. Weeeeeh! I've also had this outfit post on queue for some time now and haven't really had the chance to pair it with a good segue, sooooo, I guess this is where the segue parts comes in. Lol.
Something summer-y, in time for our trip on Wednesday. Yaaaaay!
A vacay every now and then really makes things lighter, well at least for me. Especially it it involves the beach! I can already smell the sea in the air, feel the sand in my hair.
Hola, lovelies! I hope you guys were able to enjoy the long weekend as much as I did! I spent the weekend in Baguio to celebrate (uber late) the boyf's birthday with his family. I also paid my lovely sisters a visit. I made sure I feed them good food which led me to recommending we eat lunch at Cafe by the Ruins. This quaint little restaurant is a bit pricey but almost everything is organic, and organic ingredients aren't cheap do I'd give it to them. I just wish their waiters/waitresses aren't absent-minded because this place is flocked by several people, incompetent service tramples good food.
Bibi ordered Crispy Tapa, since each serving was aplenty, we made sure we tasted each others dishes. I'm not a food connoisseur so don't quote me. Lol! This is just based on my own, unbiased taste perception of the food! The tapa was crispy, it may seem too dry but the tomatoes balance that. I added a bit of salt though (to the tomatoes) because it becomes bland once you add too much tomatoes.
Hello! First off, I'm hoping everyone's high and dry as of this writing. The rain has been crazy! I was on holiday yesterday (Quezon City day) and I missed work today because of this evil rain/typhoon/monsoon! According to weather forecasts, we're expecting rain until Thursday--I'm hoping though that everyone's still safe by then. I'm supposed to come back from that mini hiatus with a bang but I don't think this is the right time. I'll have that lengthy explanation on my next post.
I was starving when I woke up, first things first, I checked if the streets were okay--and they weren't. I texted my boss and told her I won't be coming in today. Second thought, do we have food? No. I was thinking of something perfect for this typhoon-y weather, checked the fridge and we have Sayote (Chayote/Vegetable Pear) and Chicken--instant Tinola!
Before Pesto, my all time favorite pasta was Spaghetti. Yeah, I know. Boring and shit. When I went to Baguio for college and discovered Pizza Volante, I eventually fell in love with Pesto. I mean who wouldn't? Have you seen how pretty and simple their pesto is? I've tried to recreate the kind of pesto that they have but failed too many times, either too much basil or too much Olive oil. That's why I thank Cheezus for easy pasta sauces because they freakin' save a noob like me from the dangers of the kitchen. Lol.
Before summer started, I had this thinking that my body was okay and I'm not fat in any way. Yes, I wasn't THAT fat but I was definitely unhealthy. To make things worse, I committed myself to the GM diet program without prior preparation nor was I fully educated about the whole thing. I did lose a lot of weight but I think it only made my body's state worse!
A couple of months after that, I realized that I'm not getting any younger and therefore should be living and eating healthier. I started engaging in physical activities, from Zumba to Boing to the Ab Ripper workout. Eventually, I changed my eating habits too and it involved less fast food and more home-cooked/prepared meals. Yay!
And that's what I'll be sharing today, my go-to weekday salad recipe!
While the other side of the world is enjoying the heat of summer sunshine, we, the people of the Philippines, have been quite under the weather for a few days now. I've learned my lesson, 3 yrs in Manila has taught me that preparing for the rainy days is not a joke AND will never be a joke when you're in Manila. Before the rainy days started ruining our weekends, I made sure that I'm prepared hence my recent purchases.
I wasn't wrong. The other day, we had this terrible rain that would leave you not wanting to get out of bed. I'm also a "dress" kind of person but the rain just wouldn't let me wear my pretty dresses that day. I thought, it was the perfect time to use le new boots. Yay!
The look was very simple and comfortable! I didn't have to worry about my feet getting wet or my thighs being cold because of the rain! I also got a lot of compliments from my co-workers as I veered away from my usual dress+ballet flats getup.
The weather's really cray, it's better to be ready, safe and fashionable than sorry!
A couple of weeks ago, the boyf and I went to our first 'real' grocery shopping. I did the meal planning and he did the paying--it was a shared effort, really. LOL. On our way to eating and living healthier, we actually hit 3 birds with one stone. We would take meals in the office instead of buying in the office pantry. I was also able to cut down on buying coffee at Starbucks (being the Starbucks whore that I am)! So eating healthy, living healthy and still a long way on being financially healthy--but we're getting there. Yaaay!
I'm going to share a recipe I did a few weeks back. Not sure if someone did this already but here goes! I don't really know how to make an authentic Tuna Sandwich so I whipped up something that's still primarily made of Tuna and a whole lot of other ingredients available in our pantry.
I promised myself that 2013 was supposed to be my year for financial wellness, I guess I'd have to move it to 2014. Ugh! Not because of all the unnecessary purchases, but, well, uhm, yeah. The unnecessary purchases are part of it too, but I also moved to a different apartment so that's another thing. If you also follow me on Twitter/Instagram, I got myself a new phone last week. So, with all of those, I don't think I'm on my way to financial wellness. I promise to do better next year!
Back to these lovely babies I got here! While waiting for my phone to be activated last week, we were walking around the mall and my impulses got the best of me.
A couple of Sundays ago, my friend Tutchi asked me to accompany her to this Sunday Market so she can run her errands. Being the lazy ass that I am during weekends, I didn't really have anything productive planned so I tagged along. We went to Sidcor Sunday Market, it's located beside Eton Centris and won't be really difficult to find. I don't have a single descriptive word for what this place is because it has food, clothes, pets, toys, appliances and what not. But knowing me, of course, I focused and took photos of the food. Lol.
If I were to coin a term, I'd say it's a melting pot of all sorts. Does that make sense? Hehehe
