When I first moved to Manila some xx years ago, I didn't have any idea what was in store for me. I just moved out of my parents' house, I was about to take on my first ~real~ corporate job, I was venturing out ALONE. Wondering the streets of the metro on my first few days, I was scared and clueless. I took a cab everywhere I go using the money I borrowed from my Mom; which, I eventually had to pay with my whole month's pay check. It's safe to say I wasn't ready. Urban living may seem like a dream to someone who's never set foot in the city and it is--given the right guidance and gear of course!

Whenever I look back at that moment, I always get a flashback why I decided to name my blog Ochi in the City. In my head I was saying, it doesn't have a name recall nor will people remember it, but it embodies who I am and what this blog stands for--it's a representation of my adventures and misadventures in the city. If you ever find yourself lost and alone in this concrete jungle, my ultimate goal as a blogger is for you to find refuge in my blog and never feel that you're alone in this city. If you're patient enough, you will also see posts documenting how I got my work requirements, how I got from point a to b via bus, jeep, etc. 

Fast forward to a few years after, I find myself hustling and bustling the busy streets of Manila seamlessly. I may not have familiarized myself with every nook and cranny, but I sure have equipped myself with the right amount of street smarts to get through every waking day alive. And with that, I want to share my must-have items from #Urbanized that keep my lifestyle going as I brave through every weekday and weekend in the city!

I first started using Paypal around 2008 when I was in college. I was tutoring Japanese and Korean students at night or whenever I was free so I could help my parents with my schooling and other miscellaneous expenses. During my 4th year at the university, I'm proud to say I didn't ask for any more money from my parents. And that went on until I moved out and started working. Paypal played a huge role in that part of my life. Wow, this is starting to sound like a sponsored post, haha! But to be clear, this isn't! I just really want to share how helpful it has been for me to have a platform where foreign employers can send me money. 

Anywaaaay, back then, Unionbank EON was the only card you can link to your account, as far as I know. Eventually, more cards were integrated with Paypal but I wasn't updated with this information anymore since I stopped teaching in 2010 and started focusing on my day job. I wasn't using my Paypal account until early last year when I started earning from this blog. I revisited my account and had to unlink my EON card since I wasn't using it anymore. I have my primary savings in a BPI Express Teller account so that's what I linked to my account. And today, I'll be teaching you to do the same! 

1. Login to your Paypal account. 

2. On the home page, scroll down and look for "Add a bank account or credit card".


3. Then, click "Link a bank account." 


4. Fill out the required information. In case your looking for BPI's information, here's what you need to provide. 

• Bank Name: Bank of the Philippine Islands
• Bank Code (9 digits): 010040018
• Account Number: (Found at the back of your BPI Express Teller card)
• Re-enter Account Number:

From our resort, it took us about 30 minutes to get to Monfort Bat Sanctuary. We rented a habal for all the destinations will be going to for the day, and we paid the driver P700. The driver also happens to be working for the resort we were staying in--and we were drinking with him the night before, lol. As mentioned, we practically had the resort to ourselves since we were the only guests so we decided to drink with kuya, hehe. 

When I started blogging, earning from the content I was making never crossed my mind. I mean, how could it when all I was posting was cringe-worthy overly dramatic, overly personal posts? LOL. I still have those posts on my drafts to look back to when I need a good laugh. Anyway, since I started having a niche and focusing on them, a few sponsored proposals also started coming in. Most of the brands I've worked with when I started earning from this blog were based in the US. We would typically work out a deal and their primary and preferred mode of payment would always be Paypal.

I was lucky because when I was still a student, I would teach English to Japanese and Korean students and also got paid through Paypal which is why this was never a problem for me. But if you've never had your bout with Paypal--this series will be perfect for you! I've been getting a lot of questions on my ASK.fm lately on how I get paid when I get sponsored jobs so I thought of doing a technical, a bit boring how-to guide on the basics of how I get paid--and with it comes a new how-to category! And to begin this series let's start with--how to set-up your Paypal account!


1. Go to http://paypal.com and click sign up. 
2. Next, click get started. You can click either of the two. 

3. Select your country and choose the e-mail address and password you'd want to associate with your Paypal account. 
4. Fill out the necessary information. Be careful with the details!


5. Click, I'll do it later. (Details on a separate post.)

6. And voila! You've already setup your Paypal account!
See, you'd only have to go through 6 easy steps. At least for this part of signing up, there's no fee--YET. Later on as I discuss more about linking your card, withdrawing your money, etc.--I will incorporate the necessary fees attached to each specific transaction. I will also do a separate post on linking your card to your Paypal account which is why for the purpose of this tutorial, we chose the option, "I'll do it later." I know this is very simple but again, I'm doing it for the purpose of sending this link to those who are specifically asking me how to do it.
